Powerful is a gallery piece that was originally created for the evocative spaces of Palazzo De Sanctis as part of the RADICI exhibition curated by Eugenio Viola.

The artwork visually conveys the concept of provenance or the origin of power and at the same time represents the strength of a nucleus expanding outward from its core.

The visual is associated with powerful letters forming a network of words communicating an alarm - not a response to danger - which the artist describes as a call for reflection. This is, after all, our work, says Mariangela Levita.

The uniqueness of the image responds to the need to communicate in numerous contemporary languages and to include the identities of many artists whose voices define our time.

Born in Aversa in 1972, Mariangela Levita lives and works between Naples and London. In 2021, she opened her studio in the historic center of Aversa. Levita focuses her attention on textual and aesthetic organization with the intention of using line, matter, color, non-color, and light for effective visual communication.

Levita´s site-specific art effortlessly crosses over from canvas to architecture and from museum installations to video. The artwork creates an empathic relationship with viewers stimulating figurative thinking through visual perception rather than narrative logic.

Her language combines symbols that are only apparently opposed and translates ancient forms into contemporary patterns. Having unhinged linguistic codes to overcome gaps in the representation of reality, the pictorial medium is self-reflective and internally self-referencing meta-painting, a 17th century tradition that Levita´s artwork redefines.

Her site-specific artwork, Extra-Terrestre, for the project Seven Works for Mercy in Dialogue with Caravaggio is part of the permanent collection at the Pio Monte della Misericordia in Naples. In 2019, she created the site-specific artwork, TUTTO.Leonardo, for the Italian Institute of Cultural Institute in Stockholm. The project has been described as combining Leonardo da Vinci with Gio Ponti, who designed and built the institute´s prestigious headquarters.

In 2021, Levita won the inaugural ALA for Art award with UP, her location-specific artwork at the Mediterranean Theater in Mostra d’Oltremare, Naples. The successful solo exhibition of her artwork at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogotà (MAMBO) extended from June 16th, 2022, to September 4th, 2022.
